I do want to point out that cold sores are a manifestation of Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), not Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

And yes, HPV is very widespread. I'm not going to debate whether or not to wait for testing or for others' success or failure to treat it. That is each and every one's own decision and the debate shouldn't monopolize the postings here.

What we also don't need is people reporting cures or failed treatments after doing a partial topical treatment for a week or two, without explaining their full case history and other treatments/lifestyles tried concurrently.

Generalizing seems to be getting us nowhere ... but one of the best treatments for HPV, HSV, eczema, Psoriasis and autoimmune disorders? Less stress, folks. How many can say they've been stress-free for half a year during this condition? Not I.
