Re: School anxiety/bullying - what supplements?

Mytwo,

I'm going to suggest a different, more unconventional, approach. In the personal development world, ignoring or suppressing the problem can often cause damaging long term effects. In my view, there are two ways to deal with this:

1. Limit the exposure of bullying
2. Heal yourself

When 1 is not possible, 2 becomes even more important. Has there even been something that was really scary to you but once you tried it and did it over and over, it seems like no big deal? That's because you psychologically processed the event and adjusted your worldview.

So, when in a situation that is anxiety inducing, the best thing to do is to actually allow yourself to feel the feelings to speed up the psychological processing to lessen the effects of future encounters. Conversely, suppression makes future encounters worse. Take a sharp breath in through your nose. Do you notice how this amplifies the feeling in your body?

Now, the trauma from bullying also gets stored in your muscles and it is important to get this tension out and physically heal as well. The best method for this is TRE exercises. Look into these.

Recap: If exposure can't be limited then

1. Bullying occurs
2. Be mindful in the moment to realize how to handle it
3. Take forceful breath in through the nose to feel fully
4. Later on at home do TRE exercises to release muscle tension

How much of this can a 13 y.o. with asperger's incorporate? I don't know.
