Re: Curing dysfunctional colon thru water fasting
Kate1960,
You sound like a very switched on person with healthy eating habits so it's a wonder how you ever came to suffer from chronic constipation. As Chrisb1 has said, the
colonic was well-timed to shift the deadwood and allow your system to rest and recuperate during the fast. If you go 20+ days, you can be fairly sure that most issues will have been sorted out and you can begin eating again with confidence. However, as
Shelton and many other Hygienists maintain,
colonics and enemas should be avoided as a rule because they interfere with normal processes and the bowels can become dependent on them.
I must say that I disagree with Chrisb1 about the Nutritarian diet but in the end, it's for you to decide what works best for you, hopefully based on a full understanding of physiological principles. These principles are well within the grasp of most humans and I think ably expressed by
Shelton in his work, Food Combining Made Easy, (available free at
http://soilandhealth.org/02/0201hyglibcat/020195.shelton.combining.pdf).
I realise that some people do not seem to fare well on a strict-Hygienic diet and seem to perk up with supplements and cooked meats but I've yet to understand what these unhygienic foods are bringing to the table that is missing in natural, unfired food.
I do agree with Chrisb1 that the idea of fasting leaving you prone to cancer is fiction. On a slightly related note, fasting does make you less tolerant of unhealthy foods and other substances. Years of eating SAD foods results in the body protecting itself from the stimulating and toxic ingredients by thickening mucous membranes and holding greater quantities of fluids than otherwise needed.
Once your system's clean, these layers of protection, no longer being required, get discarded improving your assimilation of nutrients. With these defenses down, should you partake of the old fare again, you will find that your body reacts very strongly to them. With continued use, the defenses will rebuild but I've never seen any evidence that restarting a SAD diet makes you more susceptible to cancer than someone who was always a SAD eater.
Best wishes for your fasting success.
