I use wheat and barley seeds that are specifically made for sprouting.
I got this kit off the internet at this site. Comes with a book that tells you everything. I would also get some trays without holes to catch the leaking water. I'm thinking it is better to just use the trays without the holes (just don't over water). Because the roots are growing through the holes and are breaking the trays! I also later bought 2 twenty five pounds of seeds.
Seems like this is the most inexpensive site to get any seeds you might need.
I soak the seeds in a jar over night. Then drain the jar (screen in top of jar) in the morning. Then after work the seeds are sprouting and ready to plant.
