This leaves you with the option of dumping down the immunes system ala Medico Mafia, Vit-D and countless other things or aiding the body in removing the pathogen.

Simply aiding the body in removing the inflammatory response is no better than what the Medico Mafia offers. That's like fluotidating your population to hide the moral decay.
