Re: Paleo diet & fatigue
Yes - I was on the SAD diet - I have never heard it referred to that, but how true! I mostly eliminated things when doing paleo (grains, legumes, dairy) and ate mostly carrots, celery, spring mix/spinach salads, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, grain fed beef, free range chicken/eggs, nuts, seeds and fruit... honestly, probably more fruit than veggies - not terribly adventuresome into unknown vegetables. And I'd been taking 2 Tbs flax meal with coconut oil per day along with magnesium citrate.
You are getting a good amount of fiber with this diet, but I see what may be your problem. If you are eating the broccoli and cauliflower raw these these are strong goitrogens. So is the flax seed meal. The meats can also be goitrogenic due to the estrogens found in meats.
Have you checked your basal body temperature yet to see if hypothyroidism could be a factor?
I hadn't stopped drinking green tea. I do drink water throughout the day as well as almond milk.
Dropping the green tea should also help as the tannins in tea are constipating.
I eat coconut oil daily - I will try that on my scalp. Thx for the advice!
The coconut oil can help counter some of the goitrogenic activity of your diet.
For the time being, I will eat paleo 85% of the day but I feel so much better having had the oatbran yesterday - I think I will stick with that for bkfst... but I will steer clear of the SAD.
Oat bran is very healthy.
