I only have experience of the kind of meditation done in Chinese medical qigong. This is body focused and involves focusing awareness on the lower abdomen and later other areas such as the solar plexus. I don't know if vipassana would provide the same health benefits. The author I mentioned before also used a similar method where he imagined a gold light in his abdomen.
I think it is very important for the focus to be the abdomen rather than the upper body, something external or merely watching thoughts or self-analysis. Likewise I have read that Buddhists practitioners would often suffer health problems as a result of their practice and recovered by using this lower body focused method. It should of course be done in the right way without strain which can be hard to begin with
