Re: Cured of restaurant habit
After an outdoor snow swim the other night, yes outdoor, 75 degree outdoor pool water, 10 degrees air temps and 3 foot snow drifts surrounding the pool. Fellow snow swimmer and I went to eat, (I wanted an avacado taco) at a local mexican joint.
Upon entering the eatery the waitress was spraying Windex on the windows above the food, Windex was dripping down into the chips and salsa on tables. then another waitress was spraying counter top cleaner in between the customer food plates ready to be delivered to tables, she was spraying THE FOOD with counter cleaner trying to clean the countertop in between the food, then she sprayed counter top cleaner on the chairs and onto a table of mexican men who were EATING,they got so annoyed by this they pushed thier plates away and left. I figured I would overlook the windex and counter top cleaner in food and went to bathroom. As I passed the kitchen I saw another waitress SHAKING OUT FLOOR RUG RUNNERS IN THE KITCHEN, shaking the floor runners out in the cooks kitchen above the open trays of chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, lettuce and vats of soup!!!! I passed by two mopbuckets of black water and saw a guy sloshing the black water all over the floors in the bathroom and hall, I skipped bathroom visit. When I went back to table, the waitress was shaking out 2 more floor rug runners INSIDE THE RESTAURANT all over the food station, plates waiting to go to tables, counter tops, grill area and customer tables, a few customers coughed and shielded thier faces and three more people left because a rug was being shaken out over thier table. All I could figure is it was cold out so the girls shook the floor mats out INSIDE of the restaurant and kitchen, because it would have been too cold to go outside and shake the floor mats out outside.
I lost my appetite for an avacado taco, and my friend had seen more windex spraying and rug shaking onto food while I was watching the rug cleaning over the food in the kitchen, so we left. I asked the girl waitress, "WHO, owns this place?" and she said, it was a chain of restaurants, she did not know the owners, and that they only paid her minimum wage. When I got home, I had oj and then made reishi mushroom tea. A better choice.
I am cured of my desire to eat restaurant food! Next time I will buy an avacado, a tomato, cilantro etc at Whole Foods and make it myself if I crave avacado.
Food makes people sick. Restaurant food can make you even sicker. I do not want to even think of what goes on in the food kitchens of larger food chain restaurants.
Caveat Emptor.
