Re: Copper Toxicity Syndrome supplements

== Welcome to the group. My response is below between your quotes.

In 2001 I did a hair analysis test with Analytical Research Labs and found out I had copper toxicity. I didn't order the supplements that ALR suggested as it was too expensive and I couldn't afford them being I was low income on disability.

== I hear copper (Cu) is nasty, especially along with mercury (Hg).

... (I know now certain supplements taking in the right quantities/dosages helps chelate the copper).

== Cutler likes Zn and also Mo. What we've seen from members of the Yahoo groups is that it usually takes a few months for the Cu to come down to normal. I suppose if you have a rare Cu related disease--wilsons?--it could be more complex. There are details in his hair test book. noamalgam.com

After those results I continued my research knowing I had hypothyroidism (which I tried several ways of treating, different meds. etc.)

== Common with Hg. tyrosine, Iodine and especially selenium when Hg is involved as it seems it probably is in your case.

3rd stage adrenal exhaustion confirmed by hair analysis and saliva tests (I'm a salt addict),

== Very common with Hg. Aldosterone and cortisol are adrenal hormones that are affected by Hg. Some need meds but some get by with supplements--adrenal cortex extract, pregnenolone, maybe a little licorice, etc.

...anemia, and chronic systemic candida.

== candida is very common among Hg toxic females. There is more on this from Cutler in the Files section of the Yahoo group Frequent Dose Chelation.

...

Now I have found Cutler's Protocol which is simpler and people are having results. Last night I even came across another test I did for toxic metals by Doctor's Data in 2004 and it showed elevated copper levels.

== Consider posting it with your history at the site where the folks in the yahoo groups post them.

So I'm kinda mad at myself for not taking this more seriously as I've worked my butt off trying to get well. Maybe I just didn't realize the seriousness of it.

== Like many of us. For many it did not help that our doctors were telling us we were just depressed and need to see a psychiatrist! This was the experience of this teen who is now getting better without a psychiatrist. (btw HMs affect the brain. I actually have found that some psych meds and supplements have been helpful while chelating. However I'm fortunate that I've been able to gradually reduce the dose and my doctor is weaning me off the last of the medicine.)

After finding out about this copper problem I got my mercury fillings taken out just incase mercury was a problem and I know some fillings contain copper. Maybe that sidetracked me too thinking I should have felt better.

== Glad to hear the Amalgam is gone. The "high copper" Amalgam used since the 1970's has something like 30% Cu but still over 40% Hg.

(My mercury was fine on my hair test and on Doctors Data but I still got rid of them anyway).

== Actually very low Hg in hair is quite common when folks are very sick with Hg. Check out this study on autistic kids, a majority of them have "moderate" or better improvement on the Cutler protocol.
Reduced Levels of Mercury in First Baby Haircuts of Autistic Children Amy Holmes, Boyd E. Haley, etc.
http://www.nationalautismassociation.org/library/First%20Baby%20Haircuts.pdf

The highly autistic children typically showed very low mercury in the hair. In contrast, healthy children showed levels of mercury in hair that were consistent with the mother's level of exposure to mercury.

Anyway, I'm hear now seeking advice on what supplements to take.

== Vit C, E, Zn, Mg are often considered the basics for the Cutler system. In your case Se, Mo seem to be important. Others commonly used include fish/flax oil, Vit A, various things for candida, etc.

My hair analysis test showed that I'm a slow oxidizer and I have the All 4 low mineral pattern which is I'm low in calcium, magnesium, sodium and pottassium.

== It sounds like your hair test has the look of Cutler's Rule 1 but I'd have to see the test to know. He has a book on Hg's effects on hair tests, etc. An early version of the rules are in this discussion.

I could redo my hair test since it is 11 years old but I'm confident by how I feel (still the same) I still have copper toxicity. So I'd rather take supplements and see if I feel better and do a retest later.

== Yes that is what I'd do as well. I think Cutler would say the same. The Hg, especially the inorganic Hg in the brain, does not really leave the body at a medically useful rate after it has been around for more than a few months.

I've been sick with "CFS/FM" for 27 years ever since I was 15. I've had no quality of life and it has affected my way of life in the most horrible of ways. I need my life back!

== You sound like so many of our members! I think you are at the beginning of a long treck back to life. That has been my experience after 15+ yrs of ADD, adrenal fatigue, strangely bad bone density (improved 8% since start of chelation!) etc.

I've been on disability since 1995. I'm low income barely getting by therefore can't afford to buy Dr. Cutler's book right now. I have just recently borrowed the Anne Louise Gittleman book from the library.

I have found the following supplements recommened at CZ and was just wondering what dosages everyone is taking. I know some take more than others.

Lecithin
Glycine
taurine
milk thistle
ox bile

== These are commonly used with good effects. You might also add glutamine.

Zinc 50mg
Molybdenum 1000-2000 mcg 4X a day
Nac 100-200 mgs 4X a day

== Do you feel okay while taking this? Some don't tolerate "sulfur"/thiol foods and supplements very well.

Vitamin C (not too much cause of the adrenals?)

== Not according to Cutler. Take 4x per day; total of several grams if possible. I don't think we can absorb more than about 4 g of the regular stuff; some use the new liposomal type. More on that if needed but it is too $ for you now probably and probably not necessary.

Adrenal support- B5, B6, C, E, glandular

== *Cortex* extract when Hg is involved is usu better tolerated.

Maganese, iron, B12

== Yikes, all three of these can be problematic if they get too high. You don't want to be low but be careful.

Liver flushes

== Cutler thinks they are unwise--too much stress on already weak liver function.

I have been hearing ALA isn't good to take?

== Very powerful if used right. It is the *primary* chelator in the Cutler system, the stuff that will move the Hg out of the brain. Will likely move Hg *into* your brain when taken improperly under certain conditions. Therefore I suggest that you learn about the Cutler chelation protocol.

On my toxic metal test from Doctor's Data that showed I had elevated copper levels, it also showed the same for Sulphur (slightly). So does that mean I shouldn't take as much of NAC? ARL doesn't test Sulphur. Dr. Wilson says this about Sulphur: "Some mineral laboratories measure the sulfur level in the hair. The level is always quite high in comparison with other minerals. It is not as important for the basic interpretation of the test, however. Its importance may increase in the future as nutritional balancing becomes more refined and expanded. Sulfur is present in many forms in the body. The most important of these is in a bound form as sulfur-containing amino acids."

== I don't think Cutler pays much attention to S in hair. There are other better tests for it.

Is everyone following the diet to the T? I have to follow a candida diet and it's pretty similar to this. What do you guys use for a salad dressing? Is there copper in apple cider vinegar? Are you eating organic eggs and meat? Anne Louise says it's crucial as the hormones and Antibiotics affect copper. This is hard for me cause I'm low income and so it's expensive.

Also I would like to take Maca to help with my adrenals but I think it's high in carbs and has copper. Would you agree it's not a good idea?

I'd appreciate any advice anyone could give. I want to start this diet and supplements asap.

Thanks.

P.S. Do I do Copper detox first, then deal with the candida ( parasite and liver/cleanse). My candida is pretty bad and is in my sinuses as well for many many years. I just don't know if lowering copper alone is enough to get rid of it.

== I hear you'd work on both. Also getting support for adrenals then thyroid seems to be important just prior to starting chelation. Chelation puts additional stress on the body but folks do okay by using very low doses and getting adequate support. Honestly because you are ready to start chelating with the Cutler protocol, I'd join the frequent dose chelation group at Yahoo where they focus on just support for those who are using Cutler.

Sorry I have a lot of questions but I need help!!! I've been living a living death too long!

== Honestly, I'm very happy for you. I've followed the progress of people who were sicker than you when they joined and they have posted very encouraging 1 yr updates. However it is usually a long process for those who have been sick for many years. Check out the Chelation Progress Reports folder in the Links section of the FDC group.

== Joe, hair test #354, 1.5 yrs Cutler protocol and improving gradually but nicely.
