L x W x H is not a perfect measuring tool, as the tumor is probably not a perfect rectangular prism, but unless it has some very strange shape, I think that this is good enough. How do oncologists typically measure the volume of a tumor? Do they go by volume?
If I calculate the tumor as an ellipsoid, I still get almost the same difference in volume: ~22% shrinkage. Is my ~22% figure about right? What do you make of the fact that it grew in one direction and got smaller in the other two? Her tumor is, in fact, smaller, correct?
The RECIST method yields about about a 17% shrinkage, but also a good bit more if I believe the "Note that actually tumors have three dimensions so a partial response in either system actually means more than a 50% reduction in tumor volume" statement.

EDIT: The bone pain greatly diminishes after a bit of walking and moving and her bone pain is worst after waking up or sitting for a while. I'm assuming that cancer does not react to exercise in this kind of way. When she takes more oxycodone, like 2 x 20mg every 3 hours, her pain also greatly diminishes, so it could also partly be withdrawal from taking half as many pills as you suggested earlier.
EDIT 2: While my mom has definitely been eating healthier than she has ever been in her whole life, she is still not eating as healthy as I'd like her to. How important is her diet? She typically mixes whole grains and refined grains, eats at least two fruits a day (mostly apples, oranges, and raspberries), some vegetables (pickled cabbage, tomatoes and cucumbers, leaves of different kinds) but not an entire 8 servings per day, organic kefir, some meat and sweets. She has reduced her meat consumption, but eats these organic, uncured, grass-fed hot dogs (no
nitrites , but they do have
Celery powder which may be the same thing) whenever I can buy them. She especially loves
Sugar snap peas and I pick them up in bulk when I'm in Manhattan. I will pick up some organic, unsweetened soy milk in a few days for her, as the one she's been sometimes drinking is sweetened with 6g of
Sugar which she says is to sweet for her. How does soy milk compare to soybeans, something that I know you recommended earlier? What should we be adding and subtracting from her diet? There are numerous indicators that suggest she's improving (tumor decreased in size, milk stopped coming out, pus stopped coming out because the wounds have closed, SUV numbers have decreased by half everywhere except for the new ones around her ribs and throat, skin thickening reduced in half, lymph nodes decreased in size, pain has greatly improved), but we'd like to expedite the process, plus there are some worrying indicators, which may or may not be related to cancer ("findings compatible with bone metastasis," the fluid buildup around her heart and chest, increased bone pain).
EDIT 3: Can cancer spread from its initial tumor area if the tumor has been gradually shrinking, like in my mom's case?
