Re: Why a high protein diet is bad for health
Very interesting reading. Thank you. I have previously seen some documentaries regarding the pristine dental health of indigenous people that follow their traditional diets which consist of good amounts of meat and then when they switch to western diets their teeth start to decay. One point that I would make is that I don't think a regular western type diet is healthy. I think it is quite unhealthy. Next, I would say, okay they have good dental health, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are overall healthy. Then again, I do think indigenous people following a traditional diet and traditional way of life are quite healthy. But I attribute it more to the fact that they are maintaining their health through natural living, Another key to regaining and maintaining overall health. I don't think this information debunks the acid/alkaline theory at all. You can find tons of studies about other types of indigenous people who eat high carbohydrate diets and alkaline diets, using many wild grasses and farming that also maintain excellent health. And if you look at almost all traditional diets throughout the entire world, not just in current times, but also in ancient times, you find almost all people eating diets that are highest in carbohydrates, then protein, then fat.
Regarding the Eskimo guy, it was kind of interesting, but it is really the experience of one man. I am surprised that he was able to survive only on meat for that extended period of time if it is indeed true. But let's be real, many aspects of health have not been properly researched, but eating large amounts of red meat is not one of them. Tons of research and studies have been done about the effects of eating large amounts of red meat and they all point to elevated cholesterol levels, hardening of arteries and increased risk of heart attack, among many other problems.
Look, you do whatever works for you and makes your body feel healthy. I still firmly believe high protein diets are not good for health.
