Allergies as a contributing factor
Hello,
I'm new to the forum, but am certain I have EC. Yes, the inner lip sometmes peels when exposed to water. I've decided to see an allergist who after testing discovered I have mild to moderate allergies to a number of different pollens, etc. None of the allergies are extreme, but together they are significant. He recommended that I start allergy shots, which I am going to do. He indicated cheilitis of various forms may not be caused by allergens, but can be exacerbated by allergens. So, I'll see how it goes. He also prescribed a newer ointment called Elidel, which is an immune modulator. Elidel is used to treat atopic dermitisis, which I know is not directly linked to EC. However, my allergist thinks that slowing down the immune response should help us get a handle on the healing process. He also recommended I use an alternative to Aquaphor that is called Eliply. Unlike Aguaphor, Eliply does not contain lanolin, which is some cases can irritate the lip. Has anyone tried this product. I do find that using nothing at all is better than using products that do contain lanolin. Has anyone noticed EC flares more during certain seasons? Lastly, does anyone share with me a symptom in which the lips stick together - especially on outer areas that are not prone to peeling? This to me is one of the worst of the symptoms. Thank you for any insights you may have to share.
