I'm "out of the weeds"

Actually, since my ER visit, I may have never been "in the weeds". I became depressed and scared. Being at home with a healing ankle can be a drag in itself. Then I got the infection and that seemed like something I had no room to deal with. After the ER visit, the redness seemed to fade away some, and then it seemed to increase, and that's what scared me. Fact is : redness in itself does no indicate an infection! The wound emits a small amount of pinkish fluid daily, and it has no odor. Wound does not feel hot to the touch like it did when I went to the ER, so, offhand, I'm probably on the road to healing.

Did I take the anti biotics needlessly? Very possible.

Could I have fixed the infection all by myself? Possibly, or probably, but I felt I needed ER after calling the on call ortho MD.

Would I cover a wound with paper towel again, after picking at it with hands that may have not been washed recently? No

A PhD lady I've known for years made me feel a lot better about things over the weekend. She told me I'm well on the way to healing, and you what? I'd bet she's right!

Thank you all for your concern.

Besides a slight bit of dry mouth, I have no side effects from the anti biotic, and I think I'm going to take it for at least a week, possibly two. Ortho MD let me reduce the IV Antibiotic dose at surgery by 1/2 and that healed up just fine. It very well may be the only time I take them again. I don't know how much I needed them, I just felt that the more weapons I utilized, the safer I'd be. I'd rather over kill than under kill the bacteria. Chances are I killed it 100x over.

They are over prescribed, yes, but hey, in a pinch, we need to fire all of our guns at once.
