Sometimes we only hear what we want to hear. He told you what the risk was and you made the choice to give it a go. Now you have to accept that you took a gamble and lost. His leaving was not personal. At this point in his recovery, everyone and everything is a threat. It takes a lot of work to change a pattern of addiction. Your relationship was wonderful because you will still in the honeymoon phase of your relationship. It always feels great in the beginning. You need to move on. This person is not stable enough to build a future with. All the love and support in the world can't change an addict's tendencies. Only they can do that. He's just not ready so you have to let him go.
