Re: Okay, now we come to all the bleeding heart 'goodness of me' garbage ("ME", the good PERSON).
So BTDT, in your opinion, what is the purpose of the bible at all now?
Do you believe this scripture? Which I know you've probably heard a million times in your debates on this, but I guess I have never seen your answer.
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
Although I think God speaks to us in all kinds of ways other than the bible, I think the bible is essential in that we have to have written truth to take all things back too, otherwise it's what BTDT, or Vektek, or Refreshed, or AGtguy, or whoever else, made up in their heads and it may be totally hogwash. How do we prove something is hogwash? Take it back to the bible and see what it says.
Sometimes we think it's God speaking to us, but really it's the devil, and if we go to the bible and see that whatever we thought we heard from God is totally wrong according to what the bible says, we can conclude it's not from God.
And I will agree that much of the bible, written under the old covenant, does not apply to us as far as we are not under the old covenant. We are under the new covenant. So all that has to be considered when doing a bible study, and it can get confusing. But, I don't believe we can understand the new testament scriptures without the old testament scriptures, and vice versa. And we can't just pick and choose what we think is relevant to ourselves. All of the new covenant scriptures are relevant to us, but the old covenant scriptures would help us understand the new covenant ones so we shouldn't be throwing those out either.
But I know we probably aren't going to change each other's minds. Just sayin.
