"rice only" sounds ill-advised. I do not think the macrobiotic "diet" as intended is at heart fatally flawed -- but admit I'm just intuiting this. It sounds likely that he was severley malnoeurished...

'Rice only' suggests serious "pica"-- or general, systemic mineral deficiency... if minerals are whacked, nothing can function. And the body is left open to every kindof dis-ease.

Sounds like there are other apsects to this also --emotional, possibly abuse issues. (or maybe just neglect/ignorance)

in the end, it's all 'fixable'... but first is to get off drugs, next is to cleanse and remineralize...
