Re: Candida or bacterial overgrowth?

Bacterial overgrowth usually has some color in it, from light yellow to almost black. There are other causes of white tongue that can look a lot like thrush though, such as a precancerous condition called Leukoplakia.

Yours looks a bit like thrush, but it's neater, more ordered than I've seen before. It doesn't look furry and "out of control" like you often see, but the color certainly looks like thrush to me.

At any rate, there are a number of "natural" ways to treat it. Oregano oil, Magnesium Ascorbate, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Garlic, kill or inhibit both. Cellulase is more specific to yeast. Biotene PBF mouthwash is more specific to bacteria. There are many options though.

If it keeps coming back, suspect that you have another infection elsewhere, commonly in the small bowel.

Sometimes just treating it is the easiest way to find out what it is.
