Re: Blastocystis vs. Probiotics?

Boy, it is hard to find anyone who has successfully treated blastocystis permanently. Good luck with the Alinia; it didn't work for me.

The "Australia combo" is Secnidazole (400 mg 3x/day), Diloxanide Furoate (500 mg 3x/day), and Bactrim DS (also called Septrim DS, or SMZ-TMP DS; the DS means Double Strength; 800/160 mg 2x/day.) It is researched by (and available from) the Centre for Digestive Diseases in Sydney, with a doctor's prescription. It replaced an earlier iteration of secnidazole, nitazoxanide, and furizoladone. Both of these combos worked for some blastocystis sufferers -- and we all owe a HUGE debt of gratitude to Dr. Borody of CDD and Jackie of badbugs.org for looking for cures.

Unfortunately it didn't work for me, and I tried it . Moon two separate occasions. Most recently, I followed it immediately with 10 days of Nitazoxanide (also called Alinia; 500 mg 2x/day), Diloxanide Furoate again (500 mg 3x/day), and Bactrim DS again (800/160 mg 2x/day) and then another 10 days of Tinidazole (also called Tindamax or Fasigyn; 500 mg, 4 tablets 1x/day), Paromomycin (also called Humatin; 250 mg, 2 pills 3x/day), and Bactrim DS again (800/160 mg 2x/day). For anyone who's counting, that;s 7 drugs total, over 30 days. This was paired with an extreme low-carb/low-sugar/no probiotics/no cultured foods diet, and also paired with sterilizing and sanitizing the whole house. I was hoping this would be the final battle, and indeed I felt incredibly great for several weeks, but unfortunately it all came back again.
