Well Spud when you look at the environment that those particular miners worked doesn't it reveal something to you.
Greymouth is an isolated part of the South Island in New Zealand and when one looks at the place this mine was drilled my first impression was that it looked like safety came second, really it did.
So when things go wrong it's a damn job to correct it. The only people that suffer is the miners and their relatives.
Those gases that were in that mine should have been detected well before they ignited.
