Before getting a rice cooker try cooking it in a pressure cooker. The texture and flavor of brown rice when pressure cooked is not only very nutritious but also very tasty. The taste is more cereal like with a slight sweetness. To cook it in a pressure cooker it's the same 2:1 ratio. Also add a pinch of sea salt. Bring the rice to a boiling point with the uncovered cooker for about a minute. Lower the flame real low and put the top on and cook 45 to 50 mins.
One thing that suprised me that many people I've talked to don't know is about washing the brown rice before cooking. Not just lightly rinsing but stiring in a pot with water and keep changing the water till the water is no longer cloudy. I always thought this was common knowledge since even my mother use to do that.
