I've got a regular Osterizer blender though I made sure it was one with higher wattage. In the cheaper blenders they vary a lot and they can be as low as 250 watts. Mine is rated at 600+ watts. I think I only payed $35-$40. So far between it and my food processor I've done everything I've needed. I have 2 food prossesors one of them is a real nice small Cuisinart Little Pro Plus http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_25?url=search-alias%3Dgarden&fie... that I also have the citrus juicing attachment.http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-Little-Plus-Citrus-Juicer/dp/B0042XG1BS/ref=s.... I don't even remember the last time I used my regular sized prossesor.
It's the perfect size for single servings and the citrus attachment makes short work outa getting the most juice from the lemons. I love that little bugger. It's got a really powerful smooth running motor and I use it to make hummus and single serving raw soups. The the comewith slicer and shredding blades are perfect for slicing up a few days worth of veggies for salads. The sliced up vegs I keep in plastic containers in the fridge. After you do this healthy eating thing for a while you start figuring ways to make things more efficient.
I lust after a Vitamix or actually the one I like better is the Blendtech but I have a real hard time justifiying $400 for a blender. Maybe for folks with families that really give those things a workout it makes more sense. I'm very much into the qualiy right tool for a job and rarely, unless forced financially will buy cheaper, lesser quality equipment but as I said, so far my $40 blender has done eveything I've asked of it.
