Re: Usefulness of Discarded Hair

Hi Spud,

Ever since coming across your forum, my mind has been ticking away on ideas. You have made your forum a friendly and welcoming place and its great to be able to post away. Thankyou for providing very interesting information on various topics in reference to renewable and sustainable energy.

My friend and I were having a chat this afternoon and my friend said that we are all recyclable, we come from the earth and we will go back to the earth. Very true. Its great to think that apart of us, our hair, can be very useful on a broad scale to clean the environment in regards to oil spills.

I found a link in regards to reusing the hair mats and here is a small piece of it:

“It takes about a pound of recycled hair to make a hair mat that’s a foot square and half an inch thick,” said Gautier, A mat that thick soaks up about a quart of oil and can be wrung out and reused up to 100 times.
