Re: Substitution for the juice....

I was just reading Jean Carpper's The Food Pharmacy: Page 122, "In India, the plantain enjoys huge folklore reputation as a treatment for peptic and duodenal ulcers."

It turns out, unquestionably, plantains contain some powerful medicinal stuff that can heal the distressed cells of present ulcers and ward off the appearance of new sores. Several noted researchers in India and Britain have devoted years to pinning down the amazing biological changes that plantain imposes on the stomach lining of animals. They conclude that it works the same way as an antiulcer drug, carbenoxolone, but without that drugs serious side effects.

New double-blind studies in several medial centers in India find that unripe plantain banana powder induces healing of duodenal ulcers in about 75% of the patients.

As a side note, I had so much stomach pain I thought it was an ulcer. As it turned out, it was very high acidity caused by no bile getting into my stomach because my gallbladder wasn't working properly. I could only eat oatmeal for days, little did I know it was my gallbladder causing all my gastrointestinal problems.
