This is an article about some ultra thin, flexible solar panels, I imagine they could be used for a great many applications. I haven't heard about solar paint. Thats one to do a bit of searching on.

There has been a big push for solar power in my country, which is pretty much a solution that could be used in most areas (Australia is known for its sunshine), with government subsidies for changing over from grid power to solar power, it has made it a viable option for lots of people. In densely populated urban areas, this can provide a lot of extra power to feed back into the grid, thus providing the extra power needed by industry.

Its also a good thing for the economy, creating jobs, and whole new manufacturing industries for renewable energy equipment and installation.

The oil companies have gotten used to reaping huge profits from our reliance on fossil fuels, and they have been known to buy up patents for inventions relating to renewable energy sources, and then bury them. Governments also have large contracts with oil companies, and receive much in the way of financial support from these same companies, so its also in their interest to keep us dependant.

I really think its going to have to be the people themselves that demand the changes needed to move to a sustainable energy future. Theres a lot more of us than them, we just need to realise the power we have.
