There were a number of people that were questioning the claims of BP and government officials. Matt Simmons was just one among many, he was simply in a position to be heard above others.

I thought the claims, about nuclear devices, being a viable option to stop the leak, were ridiculous, dangerous, and would have caused a great deal more damage than all the oil and corexit put together.

Thankfully this idea was dismissed.
