Cancer Anxiety Research with Psilocybin
Hello, From 2006 - 2008, I worked as a reserach associate on an FDA-approved clinical trial with psilocybin (one of the ingredients in "magic" mushrooms) for cancer-related anxiety. Our results will be published online in a top psychiatric journal in September and in print in January. The data were positive, and other studies are in progress at major University research centers.
Please note that the studies at Harbor-UCLA, Johns Hopkins, and NYU are investigating whether or not hallucinogens provided in a controlled and therapeutic setting can help with existential anxiety. They are not researching treatments for cancer.
I thought the members of this forum might like to know about the psilocybin study for cancer patients that is currently active at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore. Here is a Web site with more information about their study:
http://www.cancer-insight.org
Mary Cosimano is their coordinator, and she would be happy to answer any questions you have. Another source for information about legitimate studies in this field is
http://www.clinicaltrials.gov
(search for "hallucinogen")
I hope you find this information useful or at least interesting!
With kind regards,
A
