Re: Tooth Truth by author Frank Jerome
Tooth Truth is really an excellent book. It felt wonderful to read so much truth in a book about dentistry. I was so inspired I had to go see him.
I went to Dr. Jerome 2 years ago to get my
root canals out, which were really causing me problems. One had a constant, horrible pain and the infection was actually affecting my heart, because the pain in my chest was concurrent.
I had 6 root canaled teeth removed as well as 5 mercury tattoos. His hands are very quick and you have the feeling he knows exactly what he's doing.
He's a good guy. His wife works as the receptionist in his office and also does some of the assisting. I appreciated that I didn't have to fill out at least 3 long forms, like I did at the last "holistic" dentist's office where I had my mercury fillings removed. Detailing every moment of my medical/dental history. By the time I get through trying to remember every ailment I've ever had in my life I'm already exhausted. His wife asked me a few questions at the desk, about smoking, diabetes, and blood pressure and I was good to go.
He didn't analyze my health like the last dentists, to take up office time and collect a fee. He looked at my teeth and examined my x-rays and sized up my situation quickly. Then he asked what I wanted done! This was kind of an amazing moment, because most will TELL you what should be done. I knew I needed those
root canals out and so that's all I needed to say.
They have 3 spacious patient's rooms, with big comfy chairs. Which I appreciated because the last office was like a booth and with all the equipment around the chair the assisant kept running into things and bumping me, and the chair was small, with no arms.
The main drawback was he doesn't use sedation. Since I was having teeth pulled instead of drilled, though, I didn't so much mind. It's the sound of the drilling and the waiting for it to hit a nerve that stresses me out the most.
Dr. Jerome showed me the pieces of mercury after he removed them, and the root canaled tooth that shattered into many tiny pieces, it was so rotten. But first he polished up a front tooth for me that the last dentist had said would need a "replacement filling" for $500! Dr. Jerome noticed it was just a stain, not a cavity. So the dentist that put a filling on in the first place charged me for that when I didn't even need one.
I was there for a couple weeks to get the work done and partials made. I didn't ask him about cavitations at that time, because I had other priorities, but he doesn't seem to be interested in working on them. He doesn't have a cavitat. He's a reasonably priced dentist and doesn't want to deal with those expenses, I think. He talks about cavitations in only 6 or 7 pages of Tooth Truth.
Cavitations are next on my agenda and I'm going to try to get an appointment with Shankland. I'll have to travel a long way but it's important for me to be confident in the person I'm seeing. After reading Tooth Truth, I was totally confident that my teeth would be worked on correctly, and that means a lot!
It took about a month for my mouth to heal. But then all of the sudden I had so much more energy! It was definitely worth it. There were some changes instantly after getting out of the chair, too. His wife said I looked like a different person. And it was like a burden had been lifted. I actually became a lot more talkative, when usually I'm very quiet. I surprised myself by suddenly becoming a little chatterbox, LOL.
