Right you are, Fledgling, about soil tilling. However, esp. for commercial growers, it is almost impossible to grow things without a certain amount of soil moving. I myself don't have a rototiller, but doing without one for nongrowing areas of the garden is hell on wheels. Weeds have to be controlled. Some weeds are worse than others. Ask Mr. Humaworm, I believe he's a farmer.

So I mulch and mulch and mulch and mulch until there is no more mulch to be had. And the weeds manage to struggle through.
