I'm not talking about being lazy....even though that too can be a problem for some if their lives are not in balance.
I'm talking about lack of wisdom.
Perhaps I should let scripture speak for me.
James 1: 2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
When we go through hardships we know (or should know) that we are being worked on....molded to develop perseverance, which makes us mature in Christ. The scripture immediately goes on to say if any lack wisdom (not understanding why...or how it's finishing it's work in them) they should ask in great faith from God to explain the direction He is taking them. Showing them the bigger picture so they can make better decisions in their lives. We must be willing to learn and not keep repeating the same immature actions.
Christianity brings to every man what he needs. The saying goes: "As the despised poor learns self-respect, so the proud rich learns self-abasement."
In Christianity the poor man learns self value and that there are no class distinctions and to the rich man is given a new sense of self-abasement. Riches can give him a false sense of security in which he thinks he can buy himself out of problems.
Should we praise God in our distress and trials....yes, because He loves us enough to help us grow to be more like Him..... but we should be careful that we are not placing a curse on ourselves by accidentally glorifying the problem itself by not placing it at the feet of Jesus and letting go of it. By asking for wisdom from God He can show us the bigger picture in our lives, so we can make better decisions for our future and not make the same mistakes over and over again.
