I have 'cooked' ground flax/linseed everyday with my morning porridge made from oats and oat bran. Im certain I have not been poisoned by it. I also put it in my soups and stews, in fact I throw it over everything I eat as I am often constipated. Before I realised I was allergic to gluten, I used to buy linseed bread. Maybe it would be poisonous if its a large amount of cooked linseed?
