Re: Much BETTER option here! :)
I would have to agree that you should perhaps try changing your diet before attempting to fast. I did a 10 fast about 4 years ago, and after I fasted I did not change my ways of eating and gained twice as much weight as I had lost during the fast. I jumped into it, and did not educate myself very well, I also did a couple Master Cleanse diets that lasted a week at the most on each attempt. After gaining the weight back, I was left with frustration, and I thought that I would never attempt fasting again.
In January 2010 I started changing my diet, and counting calories. I started realizing how much I was eating when I was not even hungry, and how much I would eat just out of boredom. I never realized before that I was eating as often as I was, many times it was just a few bites here and a few bites there. By March 9th I had lost 15
pounds from making changes in my eating habits. Not completely healthy always, but much healthier than before.
During this time I started reading about fasting again, not thinking that I was going to do it at first. But the more I read the more I wanted to do it. I finally started fasting, but this time it was not to just loose weight, it was about allowing this body to heal.
I am now on day 5 and I still feel very strongly about continuing with this fast, but I feel like this time I really prepared myself for it. It seems like the first time I did it I was just experimenting with it... I learned that fasting is not something to play around with and if you have fears than you should not try to attempt it on your own.
I have also with the help of my husband changed the diet of our entire family. So my whole household is now eating less, and eating more raw veggies than any other food they eat. So when I am off the fast, my environment will be much more supportive than it was before.
I have not set any amount of days, nor have I set a end goal weight for the fast. I do have a goal weight, however, it does not mean I have to reach it by fasting, and I set that goal in January when I was not even thinking about fasting. I do plan on fasting again after this fast, for healing reasons. But I took the advice of someone, and can see the wisdom in not setting a time frame on it now.
However you choose to get healthy, please remember to be gentle with your self.
Wishing you the best in what ever you choose to do.
Any step towards better health is a worthy step.
