V you could very easily be the one carrying HPV, many types of HPV infection have no visible symptoms, and many people do not even realise they have it.
One thing to remember, is that the body will often clear certain types of HPV itself. This is why, if you have an abnormal pap smear, it is important to get a follow up test within 6 months, because often this follow up test will be normal. This is was happened in my own case, and in my daughters case as well.
The use of hormonal birth control can also cause changes in cervical cells, and lead to an abnormal pap smear result.
