Re: Hormones
Our hormone production declines with age, this is not a disease but a natural process. If this didn't happen women would be getting pregnant into their 60s, 70s and beyond.
Mainstream medicine and the pharmacutical companies are the ones that are trying to make this natural process into a disease, in need of treatment.
While there can be some symptoms of menopause that are uncomfortable, these can be remedied with natural herbal supplements.
I think there is a far greater psychological component to menopause than an actual physical one. Our society fears aging, and the transition from the age of childbearing, into the age of non-childbearing. I think the psychological distress caused by our cultural view of aging, far outweighs the actual distress caused by any symptoms of menopause. In cultures where menopause is accepted as a natural stage in a womans life, there is far less distress and physical symptoms for the women going through this transition, there are even cultures where this transition is celebrated as women are freed from the burden of childbearing, and can look forward to a better future.
Andropause, (a term which is not readily accepted as meaning the same as menopause for males), is not something that I believe actually happens. Yes men do have a lessening of hormonal production, but there is no set point of transition, as with menopause.
