Re: Fat/Protein Digestion Problems...
Many(some?) people have a serious problem breaking down fats or Proteins in the Digestive Process ...right? Could Candida Overgrowth be your bodies response to such a condition...helping it digest the things the body can't???
The primary reasons for protein digestion problems is a lack of stomach acid. The protein digestive enzyme pepsin cannot work without sufficient stomach acid. And acid levels decline with age. Antacids, acid blockers, alkaline waters, and deficiencies in zinc or B vitamins further contribute to the loss of stomach acid.
The primary reason for problems with fats is a lack of bile secretion.
B vitamins, preferably from food sources and zinc (50mg daily with a large meal) will help increase stomach acid production.
For bile lecithin granules (1 tablespoon 3 times daily with meals) and fiber will increase bile production. Lecithin also helps with the absorption of fats.
Digestive bitters will increase the secretion of both stomach acid and bile. Bitters also cleanse the liver so it is essential to drink plenty of water throughout the day when using them. Trimethylglycine (TMG) is also excellent for increasing stomach acid, and has numerous other benefits for the body. Some posts on the topic:

Bitters are sold in health foods stores under different names such as Grape Bitters, Chinese Bitters, Ginger Bitters, and Swedish Bitters. I listed these by order of my preference.
