I always tell the guests at our hostel, that when they are bush walking, to be aware that there are snakes in the area, and to look out for them.
One reaction I get a lot is "why did you tell me that now I'm too scared to go out, you shouldn't tell people to be aware, your just frightening them".
The other is one of understanding, "thanks for letting us know they are around, we will keep it in mind as we walk", with this reation there is no fear, just acknowledgment and understanding that snakes exist.
