So, Iodine also helps with HYPERthyroid issues? I'm asking because of my current dog, Haley. When I get her blood test results, I don't always get all of the thyroid results. I guess they take longer than the rest of the results. Her last time, I got the free T4 in addition to the T4, so that made me ask my vet a few weeks ago at our appointment to give my a printout of ALL of her past thyroid results.

WELL, it turns out her Free T4 was WAY over the normal range on one of her tests. The range goes up to 40, and hers was 61. The vet said that is unusual, because typically the only time it is high in a dog is because of a tumor. I immediately thought "Not again!!!" Her test from a few weeks ago was 39, so it is BARELY in the normal range. I've been giving her a supplement to aid her immune system, so I'm thinking that may have helped her body/immunity/thyroid work a little better.

However, it concerns me so much that dogs usually are only hyper if there is a tumor. Haley's appetite had increased, but I thought it might be because of the vitamins I had been giving her. They contain digestive enzymes. In the past any time I gave her digestive enzymes or probiotics, it would make her poop in the house every day while I was at work. She was able to take these vitamins, and I just thought the enzymes were making her feel good and more hungry.

THEN when she was weighed at the vet's office, it showed that she had lost 4 to 5 pounds. I laughed and told her that their scale had to be wrong. I weighed her at home, and it was correct. Then I tried to convince myself that she lost weight because maybe I had been feeding her more vegetables and less meat, or something like that.

Anyhow, I am watching her behavior and may ask the vet to do more tests. If the Iodine would assist her thyroid, that would be great, but I thought it was only for an underactive thyroid and not an overactive.
