Re: Probiotics CAUSING bloating
There is a strong school of thought that probiotics feed
parasites and that if you have a negative reaction taking probiotics you might consider that.
I always felt worse taking probiotics and I found I had a parasite: dientamoeba fragilis. The
http://www.badbugs.org
website informed me that many people with this
parasite had issues taking probiotics. Interestingly, when I took
Antibiotics for DF I found I could tolerate bio-acidophilus afterwards. It just didn't seem to do anything much so I stopped taking it.
I have taken Threelac (terrible for me), Bio-acidophilus, and home brewed Sauerkraut
One other thing: There was a BBC programme last year on probiotics. Of a study of 21 people taking probiotics for 3 weeks there were very varied results. Some people felt good, some people felt nothing and some people actually had a bad reaction and tested positive to Para-cresol which is made by Clostridium. ie in those people the probiotic encouraged the bad bags.
The conclusion was that people react probiotics completely differently. One probiotic might suit you whilst another doesn't. One of the professors said "By taking probiotics you are interfering with an ecology that has evolved in humans what we don't fully understand"
