That is the key sentence I was wondering about. I am looking to find out when these irritations begin to spin up, what is leading the action? Ozone, or possibly as you say, the acids produced by the machines that we use?

Most of the irritation is from the acids that are formed.  Although high concentrations of ozone can also damage tissues.  For example the lungs can be burnt from the oxidation of substances on the lung surface.  Oxidation produces heat and the lungs are not very good at dissipating heat.
