Re: Retracted/lost mirena strings and removal? Help! Update!

Just wanted to post an update... I FINALLY got the mirena out yesterday morning after another half hour of the CNM digging around. She had to use a uterine sound to dilate things and finally was able to swipe one of the strings down and pull it out! As she was pulling, she exclaimed "Oh, it IS embedded!" But at this point I didn't care, I just wanted it out of me. It did hurt pretty good when she pulled it out but at that point I did not care, I just wanted it gone! She held it up and we both saw how awful it was... she said it was a good thing I got it out when I did. it was in the lower part of my uterine cavity-- not where it should be, higher up. The T shaped arms were all askew... one is much lower and bent down than the other, and the middle cylinder is curved. The strings are all crunched up too. I can see that my body was trying to do SOMETHING with it, because it's all bent out of shape (and I mean, permanently, it will not go back to it's normal shape even now). The CNM put me on doxycycline to make sure I heal properly. I'm feeling pretty good today. I still slept like crap last night and woke up sweaty at one point, but emotionally I feel calm and centered today. I noticed it last night as well, when I was getting after my kids to get ready for bed, I was irritated, but for the first time in 3 years I didn't feel like the top of my head was going to explode!

I'm sure I'll have lots of questions about periods returning and what not in the next few weeks.
