Beware of the side effects with IUD Mirena! The first six month I had pain and continuous bleeding. Within that six month I was extremely ill twice with upper respiratory infections. The pelvic and lower back pain and cramping never stopped. It wasn't until the pain started shooting down my leg and a strange watery discharge occured that a call to the doctor resulted in a trip to the emergency room. There they discovered via ultrasound that one of the distal limbs of the IUD was embedded into the myometrium of the uterus. The "PID" aka "pelvic infection" was so bad, I was hospitalized for four days. IV Antibiotics is the only way to kill the infection after the IUD had been surgically removed late Saturday night in the OR. I was not aware of these side effects before getting the IUD. This is to warn women out there about this problem.
