Profitable Businesses are Good
What if you got to the point of growing such an excess of high quality produce that you couldn't find enough people to trade with to make use of it all.
If you decided to take that high quality produce, dehydrate and grind it into powder and sell it to people, would it be valuable to them?
I mean they could take the time to learn how to grow their own produce but if you are so good at it what is dishonorable about you producing food for others, processing it in a way that you can concentrate the mineral content, reduce the shipping costs and preserve the shelf life and sending it to someone who does not wish to invest their time in learning how to grow something themselves.
Wouldn't you feel justified charging more money for these powdered vegetables? After all you went through the effort of producing high quality vegetables, and then processing them in a way that their quality was preserved and even concentrated.
Self sufficiency is good, but existing in community with others where different talents are used to produce different "fruits" of labor and these "fruits" are traded in a mutually honorable way is also good.
My point is there is nothing inherently wrong or evil with business. It is just a natural result of people serving each other. The money that changes hand is just another way of communicating gratefulness for having been served.
Large corporations have in general lost sight of this and many exist not to serve but to take. When these corporations do this these cease being businesses and become thieves. Stealing has a natural consequence according to the fair and equitable laws that God has created to govern the universe.
Business is not bad...companies engaging in business is not bad...stealing is the problem.
Whether or not Dole is a business or a collection of people engaging in mass thievery is up for debate. There is most likely a mix of both going on.
I do agree with moreless that those of us who have been around for a while forget that the first thing that needs to be taught to people is the simple principle of "You are what you eat." Choosing the best foods in terms of type and quality comes after the realization that the choice is actually connected and of primary importance to your health.
