Re: A great example of the ignorance in our society
I want to be the poster child for why we must give our babies the milk that comes naturally with them. In 1953 I'm sure the formulas were not this toxic cocktail, so perhaps I should be glad to not have been born more recently, but I know from all reports that I projectile vomited EVERYTHING they attempted to feed me in the first several months, had severe colic, wore Desitin on my rash-filled constantly drooling baby face, choked regularly on heavy mucous, was plagued with ear infections resulting in surgical lancing of an ear drum, cried all the time while sleeping fitfully all day and awake all night, had raisin pie smelling diapers with attendent rash, was an obese one year old suffering from, I'm sure, malnutrition when finally I kept down the nasty Karo syrup and canned milk, and then became allergic to just about everything, suffered migraines beginning at age 7, and was hospitalized with asthma and the often resulting pneumonia at least 35 times through life and of course given WAY TOO MANY
Antibiotics . After all this my mother learned and breast-fed four subsequent siblings who did not/do not have my physical difficulties as a result. It is the only she has ever apologized to me for. There was NO QUESTION that I would breast-feed my own babies who also did not/do not have my physicality. I cringe when I see babies with bottles. Two of my children born 15 months apart were BOTH on the breast at the same time briefly until older one decided for himself that it was time to wean, with the blessings of my then M.D. who said "yes you can continue to nurse while pregnant - the milk will already be there for the newborn." THIS was so controversial as to need hiding from the Mother-in-law who already thought breast-feeding vulgar.
