Re: treatment of fungal infection

spot on Hv, my partner is a surfer, and used to have a constant battle with surfers fungus. You can't get a more alkaline environment than the ocean. The spores of the fungus would survive in his damp wetsuits, (saturated with salt water), and continually reinfect his skin, which would lose the acidic coating because of the surfing. After treating the skin with dilute Iodine solution, and soaking the wet suits in the same thing to kill any spores, he is finally free of this very annoying fungus. He rubs coconut oil on his skin after showering, when he comes back from surfing to help keep the skin acidity up.

My chinese herbalist also says that one of the reasons that people get fungal infections in areas of the body that are prone to sweating, is because the sweat carries with it salts that cause the area to become slightly alkaline, rather than slightly acidic, leaving the areas vunerable to fungal growth. Lack of air circulation and sunlight contribute to the fungal growth as well. He also suggests spritzing these areas, such as feet, arm pits and butt cracks, with lemon juice in water, to help keep these areas more acidic.
