Red Cross Toothache Kit or Clove Oil

Ok, I was searching the web for a home remedy and found this forum... http://www.myhomeremedies.com/topic.cgi?topicid=301
for the Red Cross Toothache Kit or clove oil.

So, I went to the drug store and purchased it for about $6. The cotton ball was too big to get in the hole, so I just sat it on top of the hole and pressed down a small bit and then did that a couple more times. The pain went away and has been gone for about 4 hours now. Appears that this is what the dentist uses to pack a dry socket anyway. Well, I'm planning on doing it again before bed just to be safe and I'm going to try using a small piece of the cotton ball that will fit in the hole.

The directions say to use for a short period of time and nothing about leaving it in for days. So, I'm going to try it that way because one of the postings at the link said that leaving it in can slow down the healing process.
