Re: avocado causing constipation?

is this possible? I only recently got my bowels to start working regularly after 10 years of not working well at all. It was a long haul but I finally figured out how to get them to work properly. I used a combination of eating lots of real sauerkraut with active cultures, a good probiotic, a high fiber diet, some triphala, digestive enzymes, and a supplement from standard process called betacol.

Now suddenly they stopped working well again! The only thing I did differently recently was add avocado was to my diet, one every day. Could that possibly cause constipation? I don't really have constipation, but rather small bowel movements and a feeling of being always bloated and backed up.

This is damn frustrating!

by the way, if I eat bananas two or three days in a row that will also plug up my bowels for some weird reason. it's always been that way

Avocados are generally laxative due to their high content of in soluble fibers. On the other hand they are also rich in dietary amines. Some people are very sensitive to amines and they can cause diarrhea or constipation in these individuals. Amines can also trigger allergic reactions or migraines in sensitive individuals.
