Newspaper News in different countries...
Hello....I read the newspaper yesterday (something I don't normally do) and was pleased to see that on the front page of one of our national papers (Canada - National Post) there was an article on the UN and how France Germany and Russia are against going to war in Iraq and are trying to stop it (they've got their own ideas). I read some more articles inside how the Britons are up in arms about Tony Blair's affiliation with George Bush...and what the word is in England about Bush ('he's an idiot'). All in all it showed a Europe that is NOT supporting this war. (yay!) My question is: I would be very interested to know what each persons national newspaper prints about what's going on right now. You guys in the U.S...please tell me what's going on in your newspapers? The New York Times - is this the one you read? Or U.S.A. Today? I'd like to know. And, Martin, you're from Germany, right? What are your newspapers saying?
In one article in the National Post: "Here, the war is seen as linked to oil and the unfinished business of the President's father" (in England)
I would just like to know if EVERYWHERE except the United States is saying this. (this is not a debate about the truth of the statement - I'm wondering what people are HEARING)
Oh yeah...I have to say that I was extremely embarrassed when I read the underhanded, immature and lowest common denominator 'arguments' by Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice when they heard of France, Germany and Russia's Plan 'Project Mirage'. Powell used sarcastic humour (painting a picture of Inspector Clouseau - getting the American public to laugh and sneer instead of think) and Rice "made a pointed reference to the patchy record of France and Germany in fighting tyranny and to the historic debt both nations owe America." Woah. That's low. They aren't being logical...they are acting like little unaware teenagers. I was shocked and repelled.
Anyway...I'd love to hear what you're hearing in your news!!! I think this is important for all of us to know.
