So, you'll want to prefilter the water through a QUALITY activated charcoal filter before distilling.

I have never fully researched the various types of quality activated charcoal filters for drinking water, because we have an RO system for drinking water and only have to filter our shower/bath water...and I found Aquasana filters to be the best quality for that (at the time I researched fully, which was several years ago).

I would DEFINITELY want to confirm that the US countertop units also remove chloramine before ordering.

Be VERY careful about 'low end' charcoal filters (particularly Britta filters, which are almost useless).
