(Google search on chloramine + 'activated charcoal')
So, you'll want to prefilter the water through a QUALITY activated charcoal filter before distilling.
I have never fully researched the various types of quality activated charcoal filters for drinking water, because we have an RO system for drinking water and only have to filter our shower/bath water...and I found Aquasana filters to be the best quality for that (at the time I researched fully, which was several years ago).
A quick search shows:
(from the Aussie Aquasana site)
>>>Does the Aquasana Remove Chloramines?
The Aquasana Countertop will reduce chloramines by up to 99%, but not for a full 2000 litres. Because chloramine is a combination of ammonia and chlorine, chloramines will exhaust the filters after about 1500 litres (which means testing showed that the system was actually good for 3000 litres), or about 5 months. The Rhino ‘Whole of House’ Water Filter will treat 12,000,000 litres for chloramines, or about 4 years for the average Australian.<<<
Here's the link to the US site, and the countertop filtration unit is on sale right now (20% off = discount of $24.00)

I would DEFINITELY want to confirm that the US countertop units also remove chloramine before ordering.
Be VERY careful about 'low end' charcoal filters (particularly Britta filters, which are almost useless).
'Hope this provides some help on your quest!
