Re: Wake up Call!!

Long time reader, first time poster here…

First of all, thanks Molly for all you have done on these forums to help other people.

Quitting smoking will be one of your hardest accomplishments but well worth it! There is NO ONE WAY to quit. Each person has to find their own path. The most important thing to remember is to not give up. It’s worth it.

There are many resources available to help with quitting. Many US states have their own quitlines, free access to quit smoking counselors that can help with putting together a plan for quitting. There are many web sites and books out there also. Read with a critical eye, take what you feel will work for you, and leave the rest. You know your body and situation better than anyone else.

People often say that they enjoy smoking, but that’s an illusion. Here’s another way to think about it -- smoking make that vague uncomfortable feeling go away, but what caused that feeling to begin with? It’s withdrawal -- from the previous cigarette! A vicious circle.

Keep reminding yourself of why you don’t want to smoke -- that will help you not to crave a cigarette.

No matter which method you choose to quit, consider reading Alan Carr’s book called The Easyway to Stop Smoking. The ideas will be useful in helping you free yourself from the addiction.

Best wishes, you can absolutely do this!
