Re: Thymus and parasites
Get Dr. David Watts book on Trace Elements dot com. It is about a $20 book and has extensive information on glandular inter-relationships.
In
Chronic-Fatigue-Syndrome (chronic fatigue syndrome) research there is clear evidence of the dysregulation of the HPA (hypothalamus/ pitutitary/ adrenal) axis. The primary issue with this dysregulation is the two-fold, 1. pathogenic invasion 2. toxin overload (both are glutathione dependent systems)
The HPA axis is involved in defense mechanisms involving the immune responses. In my case I developed Cushing's or hyper-adrenalism following a
parasite invasion. Mine was quite a dramatic immune response. The HPA axis is inter- connected in that the hypothalamus and pitutary send out hormones into the blood stream to elicit further hormonal outputs such as the adrenal hormones. Adrenal hormones provide homeostatis, that is they are metabolic regulating hormones, without them you would die. This is why adrenal supportive nutrients are essential for recovery (e.g. pantothenic acid, vit c, b complex, bovine adrenal glandulars, adaptogens etc)
One set of hormones (there are many the adrenals produce something like 40+) are the glutcocorticoids. Glucocorticoids work by inducing glucose production in order to handle higher demands by the body. They stimulate both the liver and pancreas to raise glucose which is one of the primary sources of energy. Think of it like pushing down the gas pedal in your car when going up a hill or passing somebody. Your body needs energy production to fight off the infections. So by increasing metabolic rates, you start effecting other glandular systems and mineral uptakes and dispersement. The thymus is one of those glands affected. And when the thymus becomes dysregulated other systems rise and fall.
So everything is interconnected and rarely operates in isolation. Interesting enough immune reactions will also stimulate the HPG system which is hypothalamus/pitutary and gonadal systems (estrogen & testosterone). So basically you become a complete hormonal mess!
Dr. Watts book is an excellent resource as is his testing.
